Send Mother's Day Flowers

When a person decides to send Mother's Day flowers to the one who gave them birth, a long standing tradition is maintained here in the United States as well as other countries around the world. Mother's Day began as an official holiday in West Virginia in 1912 and became a nationally recognized day two years later with a resolution enacted by Congress. Mothering Day, ,the equivalent of the United States celebration, was instituted to allow children, taken away from parents at a young age to become indentured servants, were allowed to return for to visit their families, especially Mom. While the originator of the holiday in America stated openly that her idea for celebration was to be a holiday for emotions and tenderness and not a time for making money from the celebration, the holiday does offer thousands of options for gift giving, including not only flowers but Mother's Day gift baskets and other possibilities. There is no worse feeling than to somehow forget to send that special woman a gift on time. For this holiday, the belated stuff just doesn't work, except for perhaps a ginormous bouquet of roses, sent by wire on Monday, with the card saying, "I am sooo sorry."

Of course, all florists love the notion to send Mother's Day flowers on the second Sunday of May (March 2 in the UK) because it is an incredibly huge weekend for profit to be made. The first thought for a child who is away from home and cannot make the trip back for that weekend visit is to send Mother's Day flowers. A bouquet of the finest that a garden has to offer is always a nice touch, unless it has been done four years in a row. Since most men are a little lost in what to buy any female, and especially a mom, the choice of flowers is a gift is that is quick and easy, and dare one say, an expeditious way of easing whatever guilt may be lingering for the absence on that especially honored weekend. Carnations appear to be the most traditional of flowers to give, and also a very inexpensive flower in a horticulturist's arsenal, with red carnations given to mothers living, and white in memory of a mother who has passed. However, carnations are not the only flowers given on this occasion, because ads from florists everywhere suggest roses, azaleas, tulips, daisies, sunflowers and for the son who is very far away and has no time planned in the foreseeable future for a visit back home, the very expensive orchid.

But of course there a million other ideas for what to do for Mother's Day, including making the visit back home and taking Mom out for a wonderful meal. It should be stated that hamburgers don't really count as dinner out for this celebratory weekend. However, a simple but tasteful meal and some humble flowers would be a wonderful and memorable present for the woman who, in many cases, went close to death to bring us into the world. If truth were really known, most moms would just like to have their children near. "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also and he praiseth her." (Proverbs 31:28) However, instead of flowers, as perhaps a nice change of pace, a child might want to consider giving one of many Mother's Day gift baskets that are available from hundreds of vendors.

If children choose to go the more expeditious manner and order Mother's Day gift baskets from an online source, making it easy to send with just a few clicks of a mouse, a dazzling array of possibilities await the giver. For around thirty five dollars, shipping and handling extra, a child may send a New York style cheesecake in a nice wicker basket, or for fifty dollars, gift basket with treatment for the feet is available. For ninety-nine dollars, offspring can send mom a basket filled with gourmet chocolates or all the fixings for a Bed and Breakfast breakfast. Of course for the child living in the forty ninth state and mom living in the Sunshine State, one of the one hundred and fifty dollar Mother's Day gift baskets can include a basket filled with kosher food, or one filled with everything mom would need for fondue, including fruit and chocolate. And for the child at the South Pole and unable to get home for that special day, the two hundred dollar gift basket that has all the food one would need for a weekend in Paris, or just Delaware or Utah might be a thought.

However, beautiful baskets for gifts can be purchased online for less than ten dollars and filled with all sorts of incredible gift ideas to send to Mom on that celebratory occasion, including teddy bears with varying attire just for Mother's Day, surrounded by her favorite sweets, or instead of a stuffed bear, a gift certificate for a massage and some exotic fruit she would never buy for herself. A photo album of the grandchildren with food in the basket, or a couple of books of her favorite author with delectable food items she just wouldn't get for herself could also be nice. Of course, a wise person must figure in the cost of shipping and handling and mailing it in enough time for it to arrive before that Sunday. If it doesn't get there on time, remember the roses on Monday.

Many children would still love to have moms for which to send gifts. The death of a mother can be an example of a profound loss in life, and often there is the "I wish I had done something nicer" regret as the memories rush by. To send Mother's Day flowers or Mother's Day gift baskets or even cards is just a natural thing to do for a child with a grateful heart. Maybe not necessarily grateful for the mom, because there have been some pretty miserable moms through history, but grateful for that woman who went through the burden and travail of giving life. Plan ahead and give a gift of thoughtfulness.
