Savi Pharmaceutical opens WHO-GMP pharmaceutical factory in city

Savi Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Co., or Savipharm, on Sunday opened its first drug manufacturing facility, a healthcare warehouse center and a head office at Tan Thuan Export Processing and Industrial Zone in HCM City.

The VND200 billion complex covers 25,000 square meters and uses modern technology following WHO’s Good Manufacturing Practice (WHO-GMP) and meets EU-GMP. Production management follows Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition guidelines, becoming the first local drug manufacturing firm to apply the guidelines, said Tran Tuu, chairman of Savipharm.

The company produces specific medicines for conditions including heart and pulse diseases, cancer and mental diseases.

The factory supplies hospitals with cardiovascular drugs, lipid-blood reduction drugs, digestion drugs, liver drugs, pain killers, febrifuge, cough medicine, sputum drugs, vitamins and minerals and cooperates with local and foreign drug manufacturing firms to produce and distribute other drug products. It is an official distributor for ROHTO Vietnam and Ireland’s Medentech firms with aseptic products at hospitals, aseptics for fruit and vegetables, water and baby bottles.

The company can now produce other products under franchising agreements with foreign drug manufacturing firms.
The warehouse meets Good Storage Practice and Good Laboratory Practice standards, Tuu said. It has a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters and offers 2,235 jobs in a temperature-controlled environment, which is equipped with American and German technologies.

“The center will set the standard for quality and innovation in logistics for the Vietnamese healthcare sector in years to come,” Tuu said.

The facility is geared towards total quality control, the company said. Research and Development and Quality Assurance facilities will also be equipped with modern equipment. The company is building its second and third drug manufacturing facilities at the park.

Viet Nam now has 100 drug manufacturing facilities meeting WHO-GMP and ASEAN-GMP standards. (SGT)
