Ah, what says love better than a bouquet of long stem red roses? A bouquet of red roses is the perfect gift for that special someone close to the heart. Perhaps even Little Red Riding Hood had red roses, and what could be more fitting for a little girl with a red hood? Paired with a valentine box of chocolates, flowers will make any girls heart goes pitter-patter upon the sight of her loved one approaching. This flower is one of the most cultured in the world, having been the subject of contests and shows around the world. This flower has had primary place at beauty pageants, weddings, funerals and any fancy festival where class and beauty are desired.
Just before the turn of the 20th century, these flowers began to be hybridized using varieties from countries around the world. The new hybrids were perfect because the stems were stiff and could be easily arranged in tall vases and presented to loved ones. In some countries in Europe, a gift of red roses doesn't always mean twelve roses in all. If there are an odd number of flowers in the gathering, this means the suitor took special thought and care when choosing each stem. Therefore the flower gift means that much more. A bouquet of red roses does not always have to be fresh and alive, however. Perhaps the receiver would prefer flowers made from porcelain! That gift will last a lifetime and will always be admired.
When memories need to be preserved for a lifetime, silk is a great choice as long as the flowers are kept away from direct sunlight and stored in clear plastic. A wedding bouquet of red roses could be kept for years, and if kept well, given to a daughter or even granddaughter. If silk is too expensive, a little searching may yield some beautiful rose bouquets made out of paper that look like the real thing! Artists are skilled at botanical painting, and so a close up look may be in order to be sure it isn't real. For those connoisseurs of glass, rose bouquets are available in this medium also, and can be found in more than just one color. Down to earth people would appreciate hand-carved flowers painted a deep scarlet color, complete with wooden greenery and perhaps some dried baby's breath intermingled for a nice mantle piece setting. Whatever the taste there is sure to be something that suits the artistic palette.
When giving long stem red roses, usually on a national holiday, birthday or wedding anniversary, how about giving flowers made out of candy? That way the box of chocolates can be left behind, and the roses and candy can be two gifts in one. How's that for killing two birds with one stone?! Or when the lady prefers luxuriant bubbles in the bubble bath or decorative soaps in the bathroom, red rose bouquets can be found made of soap too.
The rose has been associated with ancient rituals started by the Greeks and Romans, and some of their gods were associated with the red flower. In fact many countries and political parties associate themselves with red and other varieties of roses and have done so throughout decades of time. The rose is also associated with romance and sensuality in the movies as when a flamenco dancer places a rose between the teeth while dancing with a partner. Even ceremonies and holidays in the United States utilize the rose. For example each New Year's Day the Rose Parade is on television all across the country. All the floats in the parade are covered with various types and colors of rose petals, making this parade one of the most unique parades of all time. Several states have adopted the rose as the state flower.
When giving long stem red roses, do not forget to fill out the arrangement with various greeneries and other smaller accent flowers. Typically, roses are arranged with white or pink baby's breath, green ferns or leaves of some sort. Of course other types of flowers can be mixed in, but it is best to keep the accents understated enough to accent the bouquet to really make them stand out. The larger the number of flowers the more impressive they will be. The fresher the flower is the longer it will last, but it will begin fading after four or five days in a vase. The Bible describes the fragility of the flower when comparing it to the infiniteness of God's Word: "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever" (Isaiah 40:8 KJV).
Of course there are a number of ways to purchase a bouquet of red roses. Simply visit the local greenhouse or florist for an up close and personal tour of what is being sold. This is the best way to make sure that what is being purchased will be appropriate for that someone special. The vase is also important to pair with the flowers to perfectly display them. Flowers can be ordered through the mail as well, over the telephone and now days, over the internet using a credit card for payment. For a special romantic touch all throughout the year, arrange to have one rose per month delivered to that special someone. Arrangements can also come with stuffed animals and other types of gifts, depending on the occasion. Usually a dozen long stem red roses are delivered in a long box wrapped with a ribbon and a gift card on the outside. Inside will be the flowers and perhaps some baby's breath and greenery to accent the arrangement once it is safely in the vase.
Women just love roses of all types, colors and varieties. A suitor cannot go wrong when deciding to send them to a girlfriend or wife. Remembering them in this fashion will help them to feel very special on each romantic occasion. Why not write it on the calendar?
