How To Recognize Stress And Deal With It

By Mike Makepeace

If we didn't have stress what would we do when faced with a wild animal about to eat us? We might just stand there and be eaten. Clearly that would be bad for the future of our species so we have the 'fight or flight' feelings when we are faced with danger. The problem is that we get those same feelings when faced with other, more mundane, tricky situations.

It is our body and our senses telling us we must prepare for action of some kind, that we must do something to get out of the situation we find ourselves in. The reason stress is such a problem in modern life is that the stress we experience is often not the sort we can either run away from or fight.

We all have complicated lives these days and while technology has brought great benefits it has also led us to a place where we don't feel in control of our daily life. Our employer controls our income and we may worry that it could disappear at any time. The banks and the credit cards control our finances and can affect our financial situation at a stroke.

Stress can be a killer. If ignored, over time, it can play a big part in other health issues that may appear even when they appear unrelated. If you find yourself constantly stressed beyond your comfort level or you find yourself screaming inside then you should consider taking some action to reduce the stress you are experiencing.

It may be as simple as taking a vacation and giving your stressed mind and body a break. Getting away from all the causes of stress and the problems you have to deal with in your normal daily life may let you relax and forget about work. That is the reason vacations were invented so make the most of them and relax.

Where your stress problems occur due to financial or relationship difficulties it may be appropriate to get professional advice from a qualified person. They may be able to take an impartial view and help you deal with the problems and enable your stress problems to reduce or disappear.

Nobody wants to be unhappy yet we take on jobs that we hate. We end up in relationships that somehow never turn out as we expected and we are always short of the money we need to do the things that we aspire to. It is a recipe for a life full of stress and it makes you wonder how we survive at all.
