The Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) on January 2 announced that it would spend 272 billion dong on poverty reduction programme in the most difficult areas during 2009-2010.
In particular, the bank would allocate 150 billion dong to build infrastructure and develop education and health care services in the provinces of Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Binh Dinh.
The remaining 122 billion dong will be used to build school, dormitory and infrastructure in the West North, central highland area and west southern of Vietnam with 10 billion dong allocated for each project.
From 2004 to 2008, BIDV spent over 80 billion dong (particularly the bank allocated 35 billion dong in 2008) to support the poor, build schools and develop infrastructure.
