Quanta Computer eyeing Vietnam

Increasing Chinese labor costs has many Taiwanese investors looking at Vietnam, including Quanta Company, the world's largest notebook producer.

"We are conducting some surveys in Vietnam and other countries," a spokeswoman of Quanta Computer told Reuters.

Quanta Computer Incorporated is a Taiwan-based manufacturer of notebook computers and other electronic hardware. It is the largest manufacturer of notebook computers in the world. Its customers include Dell Computer, Compaq, Gateway Computers, Gericom, Apple Inc., Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Sony, Sharp Corporation, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Maxdata, and Siemens AG.

Quanta's biggest rival is Compal Electronics, also a Taiwanese company, which is currently building a plant in Vietnam.

Many Taiwanese companies are seeking new places for their factories, as labor costs in China are growing – forecasted to increase by 20-25% this year.
