Hoodia Review - Does hoodia work for weight loss?

By James M Miller

The question is always the same for any product, philosophy, idea, new thought or commodity. Does it work? That's the litmus test for, the final bottom line for anything new and untried. So the question is: Does Hoodia really work? Is it possible to lose weight just be taking a supplement from plant that only grows well in the South African Desert? Is the interest in this latest thing justified or is it only popular because it is new?

If you ask the company that's spent millions on developing the plant to the point where they have the only government run growing operation in South Africa, the answer is an overwhelming yes. Phytopharm have proven that the active ingredient in Hoodia, P57, acts on the brain in a similar way to glucose in that the body is fooled into thinking it is full even when it hasn't eaten. The company also reports that obese volunteers managed to cut their intake by 100 calories a day over the volunteers that did not try the supplement. As an added advantage, scientists report that there are no side effects from taking the plant although there are reports of a slightly bitter taste.

Other experts suggest a similar optimistic but moderate approach. They say that while Hoodia works, it works best as a part of a comprehensive weight loss program including exercise and a change in diet. Still, they caution against the homegrown version of the diet supplement since it has been proven that Hoodia only grows the best in a Kalahari Desert of South Africa.

The Hoodia pill is the most common form of the appetite suppressant. However, with the advent of a large amount of dishonest duplicates on the market, the people who know about Hoodia the best suggest that you look for a series of qualifiers that will ensure the product you get is the pure form of the plant and not some cheap imitation. Hoodia Gordonii is the species that has the ability to suppress appetite.
